RE:Anima Erasmus Mundus Master’s Programme Secures Four Additional Intakes
The RE:Anima consortium is pleased to announce that the European Commission has approved the continuation of the RE:Anima Erasmus Mundus Master’s programme for four additional intakes.
This renewed support represents a major milestone for the programme, which has already welcomed four successful cohorts and is now set to continue its international educational mission with four new classes in the coming years.
The next call for applications, including Erasmus Mundus scholarships, is expected to open around October 2026. Prospective students are encouraged to stay tuned for further details on eligibility, application procedures, and scholarship opportunities.
A leading international programme in animation
RE:Anima is led by Lusófona University in partnership with LUCA School of Arts and IADT, which joins the consortium as a new partner for the next phase of the programme. The programme offers an innovative approach to animation education, combining artistic research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and advanced production practices across Europe.
The extension of the programme follows a period of remarkable growth and international recognition. Since its launch, RE:Anima has established itself as a dynamic platform for emerging animators and artists, fostering distinctive authorial voices and encouraging experimentation in both traditional and expanded animation forms.
Recognition at Animafest Zagreb
On 8 June 2026, RE:Anima was named “Best Animation School” by Animafest Zagreb, one of the world’s leading animation film festivals.
The jury, comprising festival director Daniel Šuljić, alongside student film selection committee members Maida Srabović and David Lovrić, praised the programme for the distinctive quality of its student films:
“Films emerging from the RE:Anima programme share a common characteristic: a strong personal signature, both visually and in narrative approach.”
The recognition was followed by a special screening of the programme and a selection of films produced by the first three cohorts. The event was attended by the Portuguese Ambassador to Croatia, Maria Manuel Durão, highlighting the programme’s growing international profile.
Alumni making an impact worldwide
RE:Anima alumni have already achieved significant success at major international animation and immersive media events.
At the 2025 Venice Biennale, alumni Hsin-Hsuan Yeh, Menghui Huang, and Negar Motevalymeidanshah presented their graduation projects in the Immersive section. Motevalymeidanshah’s project, Less than 5GR of Saffron, received the Special Jury Award for its powerful exploration of migration, memory, and resilience through virtual reality.
Beyond immersive media, RE:Anima graduates have pursued diverse and successful career paths. Their achievements include:
- Short films selected by prestigious festivals such as Annecy International Animation Film Festival and Animafest Zagreb.
- Graduates beginning PhD positions in academic and artistic research contexts.
- International contributions to the animation field, including Isaac Lugolobi’s advocacy for inclusion in Uganda.
