Research-Based Animation III: Pre-Production

Course Aims

  • In the third semester, students are required to complete the pre-production dossier of their thesis film in preparation for production in the fourth semester.
  • Students are tutored to produce the animatic of their thesis film and finalize all details of the pre-production dossier.

Intended Learning Outcomes

  • Comprehensive understanding and execution of all phases of animation pre-production.
  • Ability to elaborate a pre-production dossier ready for production.

Course Content

Understanding all phases of animation pre-production is essential to producing a dossier that is ready for production. The following key phases are mandatory in every pre-production dossier:

  • Script
  • Art direction (characters and sets)
  • Storyboard
  • Animatic
  • Animation tests
  • Film production schedule (for the final semester)
  • Animation production bible
  • Studio production management

Evaluation

The pre-production dossier is assessed based on the completeness and quality of the work presented during the pitching session.
