Course Classes
Producing for Animation
Course Aims
- The course expands students’ understanding of animation by exploring contemporary experimental and expanded animation practices across multiple platforms.
- Students learn about the possibilities, characteristics, and goals of experimental expression in animation, including differences between traditional narrative and expressive/experimental storytelling.
- Students learn to develop their own experimental animation projects and gain an understanding of experimental thinking in animation processes.
- Students explore creative experimentation to open new possibilities in animation production.
- Through FabLab activities, students learn the basics of digital fabrication, including idea development and the use of tools such as 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC machines, and other available equipment.
Course Content
The course provides hands-on introductions to a variety of experimental animation techniques, ranging from traditional methods to practices using FabLab and electronics studio facilities.
Students gain an overview of fab labs and maker spaces, including what to expect, tools available, and basic usage methods. Different possibilities and styles of experimental animation are presented through screenings and analysis of diverse works.
Students perform their own tests and experiments in experimental animation using techniques of their choice, building practical experience and creative problem-solving skills.
Evaluation
Deliverables
Students are required to document all exercises and experiments. The documentation serves as a personal guide (“how-to”) for subsequent animation projects.
- Compulsory attendance: minimum 80% participation in contact teaching.
