Master Thesis and Dissertation
Course Aims
- Students demonstrate mastery of the master’s programme and the ability to independently apply acquired knowledge and skills.
- Students demonstrate research-oriented competencies in artistic or applied research contexts, using data, source materials, and their own artistic creations as research material.
- Students demonstrate strong animation skills to communicate ideas through animated films or expanded animation artworks in a personal and distinctive manner.
- Students are able to communicate about their work in relation to its artistic, societal, and contemporary relevance.
Course Content
The master project consists of three complementary components:
(1) Artistic Project
The artistic project is an audiovisual work using animation, such as a short animated film (fiction, documentary, abstract, or experimental) or an expanded animation artwork.
The film or artwork may be produced in any language; however, English subtitles are compulsory when another language is used.
Teamwork is possible upon agreement with the thesis supervisor. When the thesis or its production component is completed collaboratively, each student must clearly demonstrate their individual contribution for evaluation purposes.
(2) Thesis Dissertation
The dissertation forms the written component of the thesis and should present the candidate’s original perspective on the chosen topic. It must demonstrate a thorough understanding of the problem statement, research questions, and research processes involved.
The dissertation constitutes an epistemic and critical inquiry aimed at expanding knowledge, insight, and understanding within the diverse field of animation.
