Animation Film Management
Course Aims
- Crossover courses in Semester 1 bring together Master Animatiefilm students and students from the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in Animation Re:Anima.
- Students participate in shared classes and workshops.
- Students explore animation production funding possibilities within a European context and compare them with opportunities in their own country or region.
- Students gain insight into animation production funding across different cultures and regions worldwide.
- Students learn to write a producer’s letter of intent as a first step toward creating a production dossier.
Course Content
This course focuses on the initiation and development phase of animation film production. Students learn how to present a project and transform an initial idea into a film concept that can be effectively communicated to stakeholders within the expanded animation film sector.
The course addresses the following core aspects:
- Presenting a project through a production dossier.
- Providing an overview of financing sources and funding possibilities in Europe.
- Investigating funding opportunities specific to each student’s national or regional context.
Students are encouraged to critically compare international funding structures and identify opportunities relevant to their own professional and cultural environments.
Masterclasses
Possible masterclasses include:
- General overview of audiovisual production roles and responsibilities within a production team, including a description of the development phase and an overview of funding opportunities.
- Comprehensive overview of funding opportunities available across Europe.
- Examination of the functioning and operational structure of a traditional European film fund.
Masterclasses may be added or modified according to course needs and invited experts.
Evaluation
Deliverables
- First step toward a production dossier for the master project: a producer’s declaration of intent, including motivation of subject choice and contextualization within the contemporary media landscape.
- Presentation (individual or group) on funding possibilities in the student’s own country or region, including integration of findings into a shared Wiki resource.
