History and Critical Reflection of Animation
In thematic masterclasses, students are presented screenings and critical analyses of selected animation films and productions. Rather than trying to provide a linear overview of the history of animation, we seek to critically look at films, authors, themes and styles under the light of their socio-cultural, artistic or technical perspectives. Based on that, the students will be constantly encouraged to situate themselves in relation not only to those productions, but in their own artistic practice. These masterclasses will provide the foundation for a video essay that the students individually make, critically addressing one movement, artist, genre or series of films/productions that they consider relevant to their own country/region.
